Services for November 2007:


Shabbat Services

Please join us for services Friday evenings at 8pm -- for the month of November 2007, that means the 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th.  In addition, we hold Shabbat morning services on the second Saturday of each month at 10am, which means that this month we will be holding services on November 10th; a Kiddush lunch is open to all who attend services.  Also, on Shabbat mornings when we hold services, please join us for study with the Rabbi before services -- normally we begin (with something warm to drink) at 9am-ish.


Services for October 2007:

Shabbat Services

Please join us for services Friday evenings at 8pm -- for the month of October 2007, that means the 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th.  In addition, we hold Shabbat morning services on the second Saturday of each month at 10am, which means that this month we will be holding services on October 13th; a Kiddush lunch is open to all who attend services.  Also, on Shabbat mornings when we hold services, please join us for study with the Rabbi before services -- normally we begin (with something warm to drink) at 9am-ish.

Shemini Atzeret
(Yizkor) Services

Please join us for services on Thursday, October 11th, at 10am for Shemini Atzeret services.  Shemini Atzeret (the 8th Day of Assembly) services are marked by the Tefilat HaGeshem (Prayer for Rain) and one of the four Yizkor (Memorial) services in the Jewish calendar.  Also, please join us after services for a Kiddush lunch in our Sukkah (weather permitting; otherwise, Kiddush lunch will be held indoors).  Please note that with Hallel, Yizkor, and Tefilat HaGeshem, services will run longer than normal (ending closer to 12:30pm).


Sukkot
Please come by the shul anytime during the week of Sukkot and have lunch or dinner (no ham sandwiches, please!) or just to sit and enjoy the Sukkah and the holiday.  Just remember: It is a mitzvah to simply sit in a Sukkah during the holiday of Sukkot!

When you are seated in the Sukkah, you may recite the following blessing:



Barukh atah Adonai, Eloheinu melekh ha-olam, asher kideshanu b'mitz'votav v'tzivanu leisheiv basukkah.


Blessed are you, Adonai our G-d, Sovereign of the Universe, who has made us holy through your commandments, and commanded us to dwell in the Sukkah.


Also, please don't forget the blessing upon your first visit to the Sukkah:



Barukh atah Adonai, Eloheinu melekh ha-olam, shehechianu v'kiyamanu v'higiyanu lazman hazeh.

Blessed are you, Adonai our G-d, Sovereign of the Universe, for granting us life, for sustaining us, and for bringing us to this day.

High Holiday Service Schedule

Selichot

A Community Selichot Service will be held Saturday September 8th, at Beth El Synagogue in Margate (500 N. Jerome Avenue) at 11pm and will feature the area's Rabbis and Cantors, including our own Rabbi Fox.

To set the right atmosphere for the evening, a very special Selichot concert featuring Cantors and choirs from area shuls will be held at Beth El at 9pm,  with refreshments to follow (before the Community Selichot Service).


Rosh Hashanah

Wednesday, September 12, 8:00pm: Erev Rosh Hashanah Service
Thursday, September 13, 9:30am: Rosh Hashanah First Day Service
                   approximately 1:30pm: Tashlich Service on Brigantine Beach
Friday, September 14, 9:30am: Rosh Hashanah Second Day Service


Shabbat Shuva

Friday, September 14, 8pm: Join us for our regular Shabbat Service with a special emphasis on the introspection we practice during the Days of Awe.


Yom Kippur

Friday, September 21, 6:15pm: Kol Nidre
Saturday, September 22, 9:30am: Yom Kippur Morning Service
Yizkor Service at approximately 11:30am
Mincha and Neilah at 4:30pm
Break-the-Fast at approximately 7:45pm

Temple Beth Shalom's Annual Food Drive:

Please bring canned goods and non-perishable food items when you attend Yom Kippur Services.

These items will be donated to the Jewish Family Service Food Bank. Your donations are gratefully appreciated.

Sukkot

Shabbat in the Sukkah!
Please join us on Friday evening, September 28th, at 6pm for a special Sukkot Shabbat Dinner in our *NEW* 16'x24' Sukkah!!!  In celebration of this lovely event, we have kept the full-course dinner to only "Chai" or a donation of $18 per person.

Please RSVP to the Temple Beth Shalom Office via email or by phoning us at 609/266-0403.  Reservations for the dinner are required, with services open to all to follow at 8pm.
